Around the Area

Hamden’s most notable resident was Eli Whitney, who founded the United States’ first firearms factory for building muskets in town. Since then, Hamden has grown to become a large hub for residential life. It has been voted one of the “Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine and its top employers are education and town government.

The town is home to the Quinnipiac University’s Mount Carmel and York Hill campuses.

Throughout the town, residents and visitors will find a mix of local business and retail shopping along with a variety of local favorite restaurants such as the Playwright Irish Pub and Glenwood Drive-In.

The Farmington Canal Trail passes through the town and can be walked or biked all the way to New Haven.
